The upkeep of curly hair can be daunting but once you know the the type of curl you have, the products your hair loves, and protective styles as you transition-the rest is a walk in the park. Now during the winter, the air is dry and it turns your curls into a frizz ball, you’ll need to play interference by indulging in some TLC with weekly deep (DC) treatments.Finding the right quality and of course affordable deep conditioner can make the world of a difference on curly girls like you and me. Adding a rich dose of moisture once a week or so can strengthen you strands, and repair any damage from previous heat styling. The best deep conditioners I have tried have also helped with enhancing my curl pattern, increasing shine and keeping it healthier for longer.
You want your D.C. to have hydrating ingredients that will help penetrate your strands without weighing them down; such as shea butter, coconut oil, raw honey and aloe vera. Adding heat to your deep conditioner can be effective and can activate some of the ingredients. So where does one go to find the best deep conditioner for natural/curly hair? Well look no further by Curly Hair Vixens, I have compiled a list of some of my top deep conditioner a.k.a Hair Gods that will have your hair soft, healthy, and defined.
Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Moist. I discovered Aussie before I headed to the Dominican Republic and it was highly recommended by two of my curly girlfriends. Everything about this product is great; it smells fantastic, conditions your hair without weighing it down, provides maximum moisture, and comes in convenient grab and squeeze bottle. With all the sun, chlorine, and consistent water on my hair repair was necessary. This deep conditioner penetrated my dry, damaged in just one use leaving me with super shiny and hydrated curls.
*DevaCurl Heaven Condition. I started using this product right when I got my curly cut with Josep from Curls on Fifth. This treatment helps your curls if they are dry and dehydrated (our curls get thirsty too) because of all the butters that make up the ingredients. Cupuacu butter gives your curls long-lasting moisture, while the murumuru butter provides protection and shine, leaving vitamin-infused Cacao Butter to soften and nourish. This is a win win in my book. While this is a deep conditioning treatment, I sometimes use it as a leave in because my hair craves moisture and this helps to manage it from looking like a dried raisin.
SheaMoisture’s Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow, and Restore Treatment Masque. There is no masque quite like this one considering all of the functions it has- strength, growth, and restore oh my! This masque is a game changer for those who regularly color, perm, heat style their hair, kinky, curly, or wavy styles. Utilizing ingredients like Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Shea Butter, Peppermint, and Keratin this mask can help restore and grow damaged hair. This product is my very own Wonder Women because it has saved me from bad hair days and whips my curls into shape.
Every girl should have one or two of these in your hair arsenal because they are simply GODS in my books. I actually have all three with a few others so I can keep it exciting and keep my hair wanting more. Oh did I forget to mention there all under $15 dollars and available at your local drugstore or Amazon.com (except the DevaCurl it’s a little pricey but worth every penny).
